Vijay's TVK finds itself outside the INDIA bloc meeting in Delhi as Congress leaders and alliance partners gather for crucial discussions, amid uncertainty over the party's invitation and role within the Opposition camp.

As leaders of the Opposition alliance gather in New Delhi for a crucial INDIA bloc meeting, one notable name is missing from the guest list: Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

The actor-turned-politician’s party, which recently emerged as a major force in Tamil Nadu politics and formed a government in alliance with the Congress, has not yet received an invitation to Monday’s meeting, sources said.

The development has sparked speculation over whether TVK is being kept at arm’s length by the Opposition alliance or whether a last-minute decision could still bring the party into the fold.

Sources indicated that there remains no clarity on TVK’s participation, with discussions over a possible invitation expected to continue through the day.

Congress cites one key reason

Amid growing questions over TVK’s absence, the Congress offered a straightforward explanation: parties without representation in Parliament are generally not invited to INDIA bloc meetings.

The clarification assumes significance because TVK currently does not have any Members of Parliament.

In fact, after the Tamil Nadu Assembly election, the party reportedly offered its lone vacant Rajya Sabha seat to ally Congress as part of efforts to strengthen their partnership in the state.

Even so, the lack of an invitation has become a talking point, particularly because TVK is now part of the ruling coalition in Tamil Nadu and has rapidly expanded its political footprint since entering electoral politics.

The uncertainty surrounding TVK’s participation comes as the INDIA bloc seeks to present a united front following a series of setbacks in recent Assembly elections.

Representatives from 23 parties are expected to attend the meeting at Delhi’s Constitution Club, where discussions are likely to focus on future strategy, coordination and internal challenges facing the alliance.

DMK’s absence sparks fresh political sparring

While TVK waits for clarity, another Tamil Nadu party has already decided to stay away.

The DMK, once a key constituent of the INDIA alliance, has chosen to boycott the meeting following its fallout with Congress in Tamil Nadu.

Relations between the former allies deteriorated after Congress joined hands with TVK to form a coalition government in the state.

Accusing Congress of political betrayal, the DMK had earlier announced that it would not participate in future INDIA bloc meetings. Its absence has now triggered a fresh exchange of allegations between TVK and the BJP.

TVK MLA VMS Mustafa questioned the DMK’s decision to skip the gathering and accused the party of maintaining links with the RSS.

The BJP hit back sharply, dismissing the allegation and claiming the INDIA alliance was struggling with internal divisions.

BJP leader Vinoj P Selvam argued that the Opposition alliance was attempting to mask growing cracks within its ranks.

He also took a swipe at TVK, alleging that the party remained politically dependent on the DMK despite its public criticism of the Dravidian major.

As Opposition leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Mamata Banerjee, Abhishek Banerjee, Akhilesh Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav prepare for the high-stakes meeting, attention will remain fixed on one unanswered question: will Vijay’s TVK receive a last-minute invitation, or will it remain outside the INDIA bloc’s biggest political huddle of the moment?
