New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday announced the appointment of Nitin Nabin as its new National Working President, making him the party’s effective BJP national president. The decision, taken by the BJP Parliamentary Board, comes into force immediately. With this, Nitin Nabin replaces JP Nadda, who has been serving as the BJP president.

The move positions Nitin Nabin as the BJP new president in organisational terms and signals the party’s push towards younger leadership ahead of crucial political battles.

Who is Nitin Nabin?

Nitin Nabin is a senior BJP leader and a Cabinet Minister in the Bihar government. He has emerged as one of the most influential leaders from the state, with nearly two decades of legislative experience.

Nitin is a five-time MLA from the Bankipur assembly constituency in Patna and is widely regarded as a strong grassroots politician.

Born in Ranchi (now in Jharkhand), the Bihar leader belongs to the Kayasth community. He is the son of late Navin Kishore Prasad Sinha, a veteran BJP leader known for his strong influence in Patna politics.

Youngest leader to be the national BJP president

At 45, Nitin Nabin is among the youngest leaders to be appointed as BJP president in a working capacity. This also makes him the first leader from Bihar to be the party’s full-time BJP national president.

Early political rise

Nitin Nabin entered electoral politics at just 26 when the BJP fielded him in a 2006 by-election from the Patna West seat following his father’s death. He won that election by a massive margin of nearly 60,000 votes.

Since then, Nitin Nabin has won five consecutive assembly elections from the rechristened Bankipur constituency. His latest victory earlier this year came with a margin of over 51,000 votes, reinforcing his strong hold over the seat.

Ministerial and governance experience

As a Bihar Cabinet Minister, Nitin Nabin has handled several key portfolios, including:

Road Construction Department

Urban Development and Housing

Law Department

This extensive governance experience has strengthened his profile as a capable administrator.

Strong Yuva Morcha background

A major pillar of Nitin Nabin’s political journey has been the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. He has served as:

National Executive Committee Member

National General Secretary of BJYM

BJYM State President in Bihar

Key organisational roles across states

Beyond Bihar, Nitin Nabin has held major organisational responsibilities. He served as BJP prabhari for Chhattisgarh and Sikkim, with party leaders praising his role in reviving the BJP organisation in Chhattisgarh.

In 2019, Nitin Nabin was appointed BJP Organisation In-charge for Sikkim.
