‘Vijay left an income of Rs 500 crore to serve people…making him CM is in my blood’: TVK’s Sengottaiyan

Erode, TN: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief coordinator K.A. Sengottaiyan on Monday asserted that actor-politician Vijay’s ascent to the chief minister’s post is inevitable, claiming that “no power can stop Vijay from becoming the Chief Minister” as he enjoys the backing of the people.

"Making Vijay the Chief Minister is in my blood... Now, no power can stop Vijay from becoming the Chief Minister. He has the power of the people. Vijay has left an income of Rs 500 crore to serve the people. We will win all 234 seats in 2026…," Sengottaiyan said.

His remarks came as police granted permission for TVK chief Vijay’s public meeting in Erode, scheduled for December 18. Officials said the approval followed compliance with conditions laid down by the authorities.

Sengottaiyan had earlier submitted a petition to the police and revenue departments seeking permission to hold the meeting between 11 am and 1 pm at Vijayamangalam, near Erode. The proposed venue is a 16-acre parcel of land belonging to a private temple under the control of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department.

Police had initially asked the organisers to fulfil 84 conditions, while the HR&CE Department had sought certain formalities before issuing a no-objection certificate (NOC). After TVK representatives met temple authorities on Sunday, the required NOC was forwarded to the police.

Following this, Superintendent of Police A. Sujatha, along with police personnel, conducted a fresh inspection of the site and granted permission for the meeting. The organisers were asked to deposit Rs 50,000 towards rent for the temple land and another Rs 50,000 as a caution deposit. TVK functionaries thanked the police and HR&CE officials for granting the clearance.

Earlier, Sengottaiyan had said preparatory work for the December 18 public meeting was already underway. He, along with party functionaries, inspected the proposed venue near the Vijayamangalam tollgate, where party workers began cleaning the site in anticipation of official permission.
