‘Severe allergy after eating’ Vande Bharat food complaint goes viral; IRCTC calls meal satisfactory

A social media post by a passenger has brought attention to food quality and hygiene standards on the Vande Bharat Express, one of India’s premium train services.
The passenger, identified as Ayushi Singh from Ranchi, claimed that she experienced a severe allergic reaction after consuming a meal served on board.
She stated that she was travelling in coach E1 of train number 22500 on March 27 when the incident occurred. According to her post, her two-year-old child also developed health issues, including diarrhoea, after consuming the same food. She shared medical documents along with her complaint and urged authorities to take immediate action.
Complaint raised on social media
In her social media post, the passenger expressed dissatisfaction with both the food quality and the response from train staff. She described the situation as serious and raised concerns about hygiene standards on the train. She also questioned the quality of drinking water served onboard, stating that it appeared unusual to her.
The post gained attention online, sparking discussions among users about catering standards on premium train services and passenger safety.

IRCTC response
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) responded to the complaint, stating that the lunch served on the specific train and date was inspected and found to be satisfactory. According to IRCTC, no other complaints regarding food quality, hygiene, or safety were reported on that day.
The organisation indicated that the matter had been reviewed based on available checks and inputs, and no widespread issues were identified in relation to the service on that journey.
The claims originate from a passenger’s social media post, supported by shared medical documents. IRCTC’s response is based on its internal inspection and records. The situation highlights the role of passenger feedback and official monitoring in addressing concerns related to onboard services.
The incident has reignited conversations around food safety, hygiene practices, and quality control in railway catering services, particularly on premium trains like the Vande Bharat Express.
