Twisha Sharma death case: FIR details dowry taunts, mental abuse and character assassination

Bhopal: The Central Bureau of Investigation’s FIR in the death of Twisha Sharma has outlined grave allegations of dowry harassment, financial coercion and sustained mental and physical abuse against her husband, Samarth Singh, and mother-in-law, retired judge Giribala Singh.
According to the FIR, Twisha’s family allegedly paid Rs 2 lakh at the time of her marriage in December 2025 after insistence from Giribala Singh, despite the payment placing significant strain on their finances.
Investigators alleged that soon after the wedding, Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh began taunting Twisha over the dowry, claiming the marriage arrangements were “below their standards”. The FIR further stated that she was denied money for household expenses and was pressured to seek financial support from her parents through online transfers.
Pregnancy allegations
The FIR also detailed allegations surrounding Twisha’s pregnancy. It claimed that in April, when she was around one month pregnant, she was allegedly pressured by her husband and mother-in-law to terminate the pregnancy, with accusations made that the child “belonged to someone else”.
The allegation directly contradicts earlier public remarks made by Giribala Singh, who had claimed that Twisha herself did not want the child and underwent the abortion without informing Samarth Singh.
The retired judge had also previously alleged that Twisha was dependent on narcotic substances and suggested that her emotional distress contributed to the circumstances surrounding her death.
According to the FIR, Twisha was subjected to further mental harassment and character assassination in early May, after which she underwent an abortion.
The investigation also detailed events from 12 May, the day Twisha was found hanging from a ceiling fan on the terrace of the family home. The FIR stated that she had spoken several times with family members over the phone that evening.
At approximately 9.41pm, she reportedly made a WhatsApp call during which her family heard her husband shouting in the background before the call was abruptly disconnected. Her phone was later switched off and repeated attempts by relatives to contact her went unanswered.
At around 10.35pm, Giribala Singh allegedly answered one of the calls but refused to allow Twisha to speak before disconnecting the line.
The FIR further alleged that Twisha had endured continuous physical and mental abuse throughout her marriage. Investigators cited WhatsApp conversations, post-mortem and inquest reports, witness testimonies, wedding documents and financial records among the evidence collected so far.
Twisha’s family has accused Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh of prolonged abuse and alleged that efforts were made to influence the investigation into her death.
