TVK stampede: CM Stalin calls for public cooperation, orders swift action

Chennai: In the wake of a tragic stampede-like situation at a campaign rally in Karur for TVK Chief Vijay, Chief Minister MK Stalin has appealed to the public for cooperation and instructed senior officials to respond swiftly to restore order.
What happened in Karur?
At Vijay’s political rally in Karur, a stampede-like crush occurred, leading to multiple hospital admissions and at least ten deaths, including children. The event reportedly drew massive crowds, putting immense pressure on crowd management and emergency response services.
How did Stalin react to the incident?
Stalin described the reports from Karur as “worrying.” He said he had called upon the public to cooperate with the doctors and the police.
He added that he had instructed top police officials to take all necessary steps to restore normalcy in Karur. Stalin also disclosed that he had asked Minister Anbil Mahesh to hurry to Karur to assist the situation, and had advised Health Minister Ma. Subramanian and the district collector to render full support.
According to Stalin, senior officials including police and health department leaders have been mobilised. He is directing them to act urgently (on a “war footing”) to mitigate further harm, aid the injured, and bring order to the chaos.
Stalin said the administration will ensure that medical care, police assistance, and logistical support are prioritised until the situation is stabilised.
