A local office of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) was vandalised and set on fire by unidentified miscreants in Srirangam late Thursday night, just days ahead of the May 4 Assembly election vote counting. Authorities have launched an investigation after CCTV footage captured two men entering the premises before fleeing the scene.

According to police, the incident occurred at a small TVK office where two people were seen stopping outside the building before forcing entry. The duo allegedly set fire to the premises and escaped shortly after. Officials said the extent of the damage was limited due to the size of the office and quick containment, with no injuries reported.

The following morning, party posters and banners featuring TVK and its chief Vijay were found torn and damaged at the site, adding to tensions in the area ahead of the crucial counting day.

Police said no formal complaint had been lodged by the party at the time of reporting, but security has been stepped up around politically sensitive locations in the region as a precautionary measure.
