Tragedy in Kanpur: Engineer dies after failed botched hair transplant, doctor booked

KANPUR: A 37-year-old assistant engineer employed at the Panki power plant near Kanpur tragically died following a botched hair transplant surgery in March 2025. The incident came to light after the deceased's spouse filed a formal complaint, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against the medical practitioner on Saturday, as reported in the Times of India.
The procedure and its complications
Vineet Kumar Dubey, a resident of Gorakhpur, had undergone the hair transplant at a clinic in Kalyanpur on March 13.
According to his wife, Jaya Tripathi, she received an alarming call on the morning of March 14 informing her of Vineet's facial swelling and his transfer to a hospital. However, the call abruptly ended, and subsequent attempts to contact both the clinic and the doctor were unsuccessful. Concerned, Jaya asked her uncle in Kanpur to check on Vineet at the hospital.
As Vineet's condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Regency Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on March 15.
Legal action and investigation
Following Jaya Tripathi's appeal to authorities, a complaint was lodged at Rawatpur police station, charging the doctor with causing death due to negligent medical care.
A case under Section 106(1) of the BNS Act has been filed against the accused doctor. Despite being summoned, the doctor has yet to appear, and investigations are ongoing, according to Kalyanpur Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abhishek Kumar Pandey.
