A day after Abhishek Banerjee attack row, Kalyan Banerjee injured near Kolkata

Kolkata: Fresh political violence rocked West Bengal on Sunday as Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee was injured during a clash outside Chanditala police station in Hooghly district.
The Serampore MP alleged that BJP workers attacked him and hurled an object at his head while he was on his way to join a TMC protest.
The confrontation erupted when TMC leaders and workers gathered to submit a memorandum protesting the arrest of party members.
According to TMC, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters raised "chor, chor" (thief, thief) slogans and waved black flags at party workers, triggering tension outside the police station.
Banerjee, who suffered a head injury and was seen bleeding, alleged that BJP workers targeted him during the protest.
“I was coming alone when BJP workers threw something at me. I don't know whether it was a deuce ball or something else. Blood is coming out of my head,” he said.
Visibly emotional, the MP questioned the attack on elected representatives and accused BJP activists of assaulting TMC workers in the area.
He claimed the incident was not an expression of public anger but a planned attack by a small group of BJP supporters.
The development comes just a day after TMC national general secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee allegedly faced an attack during a visit to Sonarpur, intensifying the political war between the ruling TMC and the BJP in West Bengal.
A heavy deployment of police and central forces has been made in Chanditala to prevent further escalation.
