Life convict in sensational six-murder case gets parole to marry in Meerut village

A life convict lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail for the murder of six people was taken to his ancestral village in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut to solemnise his nikah under tight police security, officials said on Tuesday. The convict, identified as Wajid, was granted parole and special permission for a limited period before being escorted back to the national capital after the ceremony.

According to police officials, Wajid was brought to Samoli village in Meerut district by a Delhi Police team on Monday. The team first reached Daurala police station, where legal formalities linked to the parole were completed before he was taken to the village.

The nikah ceremony was conducted with Yasmeen, a resident of Pavti Afzalpur village in Meerut, in the presence of close relatives and selected guests. Security remained tight throughout the event, with personnel from both Delhi Police and local Uttar Pradesh Police deployed at the venue.

The unusual development triggered considerable curiosity among villagers and residents from nearby areas, many of whom gathered around the village during the ceremony.

After the marriage rituals concluded, Wajid was escorted back to Delhi by the police team, Daurala Circle Officer Prakashchand Agrawal confirmed.

The case drew national attention because Wajid has been serving a life sentence for nearly a decade in connection with the sensational murder case involving Delhi-based businessman Muslim Tyagi and five members of his family.

Police had arrested multiple accused during the investigation. Wajid was later convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by the court.
