Telangana forms probe panel after deadly pharma plant explosion kills 12

Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Monday appointed a five-member panel led by Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao to investigate the recent deadly explosion at the Sigachi Industries pharmaceutical plant in Sangareddy district, which claimed 12 lives and injured multiple workers.
According to an official release, the committee will probe the circumstances surrounding the blast and oversee ongoing rescue and recovery efforts. The panel has also been tasked with recommending long-term safety protocols to prevent similar industrial disasters in the future.
The committee comprises the Special Chief Secretary for Disaster Management, Principal Secretary of the Labour Department, Health Secretary, and the Additional Director General of Fire Services.
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who has been closely monitoring the situation, held review meetings with DGP Jitender and Chief Secretary Rao. He is expected to visit the accident site on Tuesday to take stock of the situation.
Reddy expressed deep shock over the incident and extended condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in what has been described as one of the worst chemical plant accidents in recent years in the region.
The explosion, which occurred over the weekend, caused significant damage to the facility and raised serious questions about industrial safety standards in the state’s booming pharmaceutical sector. Rescue teams continue operations at the site to locate potential survivors and clear the debris.
Further updates are awaited as the probe progresses.
