Kolkata: Two separate crude bomb explosions in West Bengal have left three people dead and several others injured, sparking concerns over rising political violence in the state.

In Nadia district, a 13-year-old girl named Tamanna Khatun died after being injured in a crude bomb blast near her house in Barochandgar. The incident occurred on Monday when the votes for the Kaliganj Assembly bypoll were being counted.

The explosion allegedly happened during a celebration by Trinamool Congress supporters after their candidate Alifa Ahmed won the by-election by a margin of over 49,000 votes. It is alleged that crude bombs were thrown at the house of a CPM supporter, with one of them detonating near the girl.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed deep sorrow over the child’s death.

“I am shocked and deeply saddened at the death of a young girl in an explosion at Barochandgar... Police shall take strong and decisive legal action against the culprits at the earliest,” she said in a post on X.

Meanwhile, in Birbhum district, two men were killed and multiple people injured after crude bombs, allegedly being manufactured by them, exploded at Hatia village in Labhpur block on Friday night. The blast reportedly occurred during a clash between two local groups over dominance in the area.

“Two persons were killed due to a blast during last night’s clashes in Hatia. We are trying to identify the deceased,” a police officer said. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
