Fleet of ‘kneeling’ low-floor buses flagged off in TN

Madurai (Tamil Nadu): Tamil Nadu marked a significant step towards inclusive public transport following the flag off of nine low-floor buses by Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan in Madurai.
The buses have been designed with accessibility at the forefront with features including a unique 'kneeling' system. This system lowers the vehicle for smooth wheelchair boarding, providing effortless access for differently-abled passengers.
The buses, part of a broader state government initiative, are equipped with ramps, digital boards, and audio announcement systems that cater to passengers with disabilities. Wheelchair-friendly spaces ensure comfort, while LED display boards offer real-time route information. To enhance driver navigation, the buses come with rear camera systems.
Safety is prioritized with advanced fire safety nozzle engines, emergency hatchets, and blind spot mirrors. Additionally, audio announcements serve visually impaired passengers, ensuring they stay informed throughout their journey.
This launch underscores Tamil Nadu's commitment to making public transportation inclusive, safe, and comfortable for all. By introducing features like wheelchair-accessible seating, the 'kneeling' mechanism, and digital aids, the state sets a new standard for future transport initiatives aimed at equal access. ANI
