The Tamil Nadu government signed two major investment agreements worth a total of ₹5,980 crore with Japanese electronics giant MinebeaMitsumi and Bengaluru-based Aequs Group. The projects are expected to create around 8,400 jobs in the semiconductor and aerospace sectors.

The Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed at the State Secretariat in the presence of Chief Minister MK Stalin, according to an official statement.

₹1,980 Crore semiconductor investment in Tiruvallur

As part of the agreement, NMB Minebea India Private Limited, a subsidiary of MinebeaMitsumi, will invest ₹1,980 crore to set up a new manufacturing and research and development (R&D) centre in Tiruvallur district.

The facility will be located at the Mahindra Origins Industrial Park and will focus on building a complete manufacturing ecosystem for high-value semiconductor products. These include Insulated-Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBTs), Integrated Circuits (ICs), motors and sensors.

IGBTs and ICs are critical components used in electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, industrial machines, and consumer electronics. The proposed unit is expected to strengthen Tamil Nadu’s position in the fast-growing semiconductor sector.

The project is likely to generate around 1,400 jobs. More than 40 per cent of these positions will be for highly skilled technical professionals, the government said.

₹4,000 Crore Aerospace Cluster in Krishnagiri

In another major development, the Aequs Group has committed to invest ₹4,000 crore in setting up an aerospace and defence manufacturing cluster at the SIPCOT-Shoolagiri Industrial Park in Krishnagiri district.

The proposed facility will focus on manufacturing aircraft engines, gearbox components and other precision engineering parts used in the aerospace and defence sectors.

This large-scale project is expected to create employment for nearly 7,000 people. It will further strengthen Tamil Nadu’s growing aerospace manufacturing ecosystem, which already hosts several global and domestic companies.

Boost to Jobs and Industrial Growth

The Tamil Nadu government said these investments are part of its continuous efforts to maintain the state’s position as one of India’s leading industrial hubs. The projects are also expected to generate significant employment opportunities for youth and women across various skill levels.

Industries Minister TRB Rajaa, Chief Secretary N Muruganandam, and senior officials were present at the signing ceremony. The event was also attended by MinebeaMitsumi Director and President Katsuhiko Yoshida and Aequs Co-founder and Managing Director Rajeev Kaul.

With these new agreements, Tamil Nadu continues to attract global and domestic investments in high-technology sectors such as semiconductors and aerospace, strengthening its reputation as a preferred destination for advanced manufacturing in India.
