Heavy rains to continue in south TN, delta districts till Nov 25; low-pressure system gaining strength

Chennai: Heavy rainfall is likely to persist over south Tamil Nadu and the delta districts until November 25, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC). Officials said that a developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal—expected to intensify early next week—will determine the State’s rainfall trend for the remainder of November.

The RMC noted that a low-pressure area is expected to form over the Southeast Bay of Bengal on Saturday, which may further intensify into a depression over the central south Bay of Bengal by November 24. The system may strengthen further by November 26, and the possibility of its development into a cyclonic storm is under close watch.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) also issued a separate bulletin on Friday, forecasting the likely formation of a low-pressure area over the South Andaman Sea.

The bulletin said, “A low-pressure area is likely to form over South Andaman Sea on November 22 and thereafter, it is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over southeast Bay of Bengal around November 24.”

The IMD added that the evolving system will influence weather activity over Tamil Nadu, with rain intensities depending on its movement and strengthening.
