Bengal CM's helicopter makes emergency landing as weather turns rough

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari's helicopter made an emergency landing at Kolaghat in Purba Medinipur on Tuesday after bad weather affected his journey to Keshpur.

Suvendu Adhikari was travelling by helicopter from Dumdum to Keshpur in Paschim Medinipur district when the pilot decided to make a precautionary landing at an open ground in Kolaghat because of inclement weather conditions, officials said.

The BJP leader was travelling to Keshpur to attend a programme commemorating freedom fighter Khudiram Bose.

After the helicopter landed, Adhikari continued his journey by road to reach the scheduled venue, officials said.

Rain forecast across parts of Bengal

The emergency landing came as several parts of West Bengal continue to experience monsoon rainfall.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall in Jhargram, South 24 Parganas, Paschim Medinipur and Purba Medinipur from Wednesday onwards.

The state is also expected to receive light to moderate rain and thundershowers over the next seven days.

No injuries reported

Officials said the helicopter landing was carried out as a precaution because of the weather conditions. Adhikari continued his journey by road after the landing.

The incident highlights the impact of worsening monsoon conditions on air travel and movement across parts of southern West Bengal. With the IMD forecasting further rainfall and thunderstorms in several districts, weather conditions could continue to affect road and aviation movement in the region.
