New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a plea from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that challenged a Bombay High Court order quashing look out circulars (LOCs) issued against actor Rhea Chakraborty and her family in the death case of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

A bench comprising Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan described the CBI's plea as “frivolous” while dismissing it.

Background of the Case
The Bombay High Court had previously quashed the LOCs against Chakraborty, her brother Showik, and their parents—Indrajit and Sandhya—on February 22, 2024. These LOCs were initially issued in 2020 following Rajput's death.

Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his apartment in suburban Bandra on June 14, 2020. The Mumbai police registered an accidental death report and began an investigation. However, in July 2020, Rajput's father filed a complaint with the Bihar police, alleging that Chakraborty and her family had abetted his son's suicide.

This led to the case being transferred to the CBI, which has been conducting an ongoing investigation. In 2020, both Rhea and Showik were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau in connection with a drugs case related to Rajput, but they were later granted bail. PTI
