New Delhi: Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), has claimed that an attempt was made to target educationist and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk at Delhi's Jantar Mantar.

In a social media post published on X (formerly Twitter), Dipke alleged that "goons" attempted to attack Wangchuk at the demonstration site. According to Dipke's statement, an unidentified object was hurled at the activist during the incident. However, the CJP founder confirmed that Wangchuk escaped without sustaining any injuries.

Dipke further claimed that he had received prior information regarding potential disruptions to the demonstration. In his social media disclosure, he stated that an "insider in the police" had previously tipped him off that individuals would be sent to Jantar Mantar to intentionally sabotage the ongoing agitation.

Expressing grave concern over the safety of the activist, Dipke stated that the central government would be held entirely accountable if any harm befell Wangchuk. He further alleged that there is a coordinated plan in place to dismantle the peaceful assembly.

The reported incident occurs amidst heightened tensions at Jantar Mantar, where Wangchuk has been on an indefinite hunger strike since 28 June. Organised by the CJP, the protest is demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities and paper leaks in the NEET examinations.

Medical updates released by the CJP indicate that Wangchuk’s health has severely deteriorated during the fast, with reports noting significant weight loss and dropping blood glucose levels. While multiple opposition political figures have visited the site to express solidarity and urge Wangchuk to end his hunger strike, the CJP has announced plans for a peaceful march to Parliament scheduled for 20 July.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding Dipke's specific allegations of a targeted attack or police insider leaks.
