3 killed, 9 injured as vehicle carrying wedding guests overturns in UP’s Sonbhadra

Sonbhadra, UP: A marriage celebration turned tragic after a pickup vehicle carrying wedding guests overturned, leaving three people dead and nine injured in Uttar Pradesh's Sonbhadra district, police said on Wednesday.

Additional Superintendent of Police Rishabh Runwal said the accident took place late Tuesday night in the Rampur Barkonia police station area near Kathar village.

A wedding procession from the Madihan area of neighbouring Mirzapur was travelling to Sonbhadra when the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn, he said.

As many as 12 people were rushed to the district hospital, where doctors declared Rajan Gond (20), Ajay Gond (18) and Vinod Gond (35), all residents of Madihan, dead during treatment, the officer said.

Two of the injured were referred to a hospital in Varanasi after their condition became critical, while the remaining are being treated, police said.

The bodies have been sent for a post-mortem, Runwal added.
