School holiday on July 10: Check states where heavy rain has shut schools

Persistent monsoon rains have disrupted normal life across several parts of India, prompting authorities to shut schools and colleges in multiple states as a precautionary measure.

The closures come in response to heavy rainfall alerts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), with officials prioritising student safety amid forecasts of intense rain, flooding and possible landslides.

In Uttarakhand, all schools and Anganwadi centres in Dehradun district will remain closed today after continuous rainfall and an Orange Alert issued by the IMD.

The order, issued by the District Magistrate and the District Disaster Management Authority, applies to government, government-aided and private schools from Classes 1 to 12, along with all Anganwadi centres.

Authorities said the closure is intended to prevent any untoward incidents as heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected.

In Uttar Pradesh, all schools up to Class 12 in Ghaziabad have been closed following relentless rain and a heavy rainfall alert across all 75 districts of the state.

Similar precautionary closures have also been announced for schools up to Class 8 in Hathras and Mathura.

Kerala has declared a compulsory holiday for schools and colleges in Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram districts amid concerns over flooding, swollen rivers and the threat of landslides in vulnerable areas.

Local authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant as heavy rain continues across the state.

Neighbouring Karnataka has also extended the closure of educational institutions in parts of Shivamogga district.

Schools and colleges in Hosanagar and Sagar taluks will remain shut as incessant rainfall continues to affect the region.

Meanwhile, despite heavy showers, widespread waterlogging and traffic snarls across Delhi-NCR, the Delhi government has not announced a blanket closure of schools. Educational institutions are functioning as usual unless individual schools issue separate advisories.

The IMD has placed parts of Delhi-NCR under a Red Alert for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds, urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel and exercise caution.

Authorities across affected states have advised parents and students to follow official updates as weather conditions continue to evolve.
