School closed today, October 30: Check which states announced holidays amid cyclone and festivals

Andhra Pradesh: Schools across multiple Indian states remain closed on October 30, 2025, as Cyclone Montha continues to bring heavy rain and strong winds to coastal and nearby regions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of continued rainfall as the cyclone moves northeast, prompting district administrations to extend precautionary closures.
In Andhra Pradesh, schools will stay closed until October 31 in several affected districts, including Bapatla, YSR Kadapa, Prakasam, Nellore, Tirupati, and Annamayya. Relief camps have been set up in schools and government buildings, with over 70,000 people evacuated due to flooding and wind damage.

In Odisha, all schools, anganwadi centres, and colleges in Gajapati district remain closed through October 30. Authorities have not ruled out an extension depending on weather developments. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi confirmed that Odisha largely escaped major damage when Cyclone Montha made landfall on the Andhra coast but said precautionary measures will remain in effect.
Meanwhile, Bihar schools reopened on Thursday after the end of the Chhath Puja holidays. Educational institutions across all districts resumed normal operations following a state-wide closure earlier in the week.
In West Bengal, schools are scheduled to close on October 31 for Jagadhatri Puja, while in Telangana, institutions in Khammam, Nalgonda, and Mahabubabad districts were closed on Wednesday due to heavy rainfall but are expected to reopen soon.
As of Thursday morning, Chennai and other districts in Tamil Nadu have not declared any new school closures. Local authorities in Chennai, Tiruvallur, and Ranipet are closely monitoring rainfall intensity and wind conditions before making further announcements.
The IMD’s latest forecast suggests that Cyclone Montha is gradually shifting northeast, bringing rain to parts of West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar. Parents have been advised to follow official school notices and local administration updates through verified sources or school communication channels for the latest information.
