Police summon Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia over ‘obscene remarks’ on YouTube show

Mumbai Police have reached out to comedian Samay Raina and YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, requesting their cooperation in the ongoing investigation of the controversy surrounding their remarks on the YouTube show India’s Got Latent.

The police have asked both of them to appear before the investigating officer and present their side in the case. This follows the uproar over the episode, which sparked widespread criticism and legal action.

In response to the growing controversy, YouTube has taken down the latest episode of India’s Got Latent after a formal request from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). The NHRC had raised concerns over abusive language and offensive content in the video, prompting the removal of the episode. The NHRC had received a complaint accusing some YouTube channels of using derogatory language and promoting content harmful to young viewers, particularly content that was offensive to women and included racist remarks against certain ethnic groups in India.

NHRC member Priyank Kanoongo stated, "We have issued a notice to YouTube, demanding the removal of such content and for concerned police authorities to begin penal action against those involved."

The controversial remarks made by Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as Beer Biceps, on the show, specifically about parents and sex caused widespread outrage. The episode, hosted by Samay Raina, led to a police case being filed by a Guwahati resident who accused the participants of promoting obscenity in a publicly accessible online show.
