Forensic examination underway: FSL rushes to analyse samples after deadly Red Fort car blast | VIDEO

New Delhi: The investigation into the deadly explosion near the Red Fort has intensified, with the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) preparing to analyse samples to determine the exact nature of the blast that killed at least nine people.

FSL Officer, Mohamad Wahid, confirmed to reporters that samples from the scene have been collected and will be transported for detailed laboratory examination. “The samples will be taken to the laboratory, and after that, only we can make any confirmation... Everything will be known after the examination,” Wahid stated.

The explosion occurred around 7:00 pm on Monday in a Hyundai i20 car at the Subhash Marg traffic signal, according to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The blast injured pedestrians and damaged several vehicles.

The incident claimed the lives of at least nine people, with several others sustaining injuries. Home Minister Shah confirmed that teams from the Delhi Crime Branch and Special Branch reached the site within ten minutes of the information being received. The investigation is also involving the National Security Guard (NSG) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA), alongside the Delhi Police and FSL.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, accompanied by Cabinet colleague Ashish Sood, visited Lok Nayak Hospital (LNJP Hospital) to meet the injured victims and review their treatment. In a post on X, the Chief Minister said, "Visited LNJP Hospital and met with the citizens injured in the accident, inquired about their condition, and wished for their speedy recovery. Instructed the officials that there should be no shortcomings whatsoever in the treatment of the injured..."

Gupta extended her deepest condolences to the bereaved families, calling the incident “extremely distressing and alarming.”

She also issued a public appeal for calm, "I appeal to all Delhi residents to avoid rumours and maintain peace. Please rely only on official information issued by the police and administration."
