Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Mumbai and surrounding districts on Saturday, warning of intense weather activity in the coming hours. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, heavy rainfall, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph are expected at isolated places in Mumbai and Thane.

In Palghar, the IMD has predicted thunderstorms with lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds at 30–40 kmph in some areas.

For all three districts — Mumbai, Thane and Palghar — the probability of occurrence is classified as “very likely.” Residents have been urged to remain cautious, especially in low-lying areas and during travel.

The IMD has also forecast light rain at isolated places across the region for the next few days.
