Jaipur civic polls: BJP wins 57 seats, Congress 40 as counting continues
The BJP has won 57 of the 108 wards whose results have been declared so far in the Jaipur Municipal Corporation elections, while the Congress has secured 40 wards, according to the latest results.
Other candidates and parties have won 11 wards as counting continues amid tight security at the Bhawani Niketan College counting centre.
The Jaipur Municipal Corporation has 150 wards, with counting underway for the 2026 urban local body elections.
Congress raises concerns over results
Amid the counting process, Congress leaders met Jaipur District Collector over alleged discrepancies in information being circulated about the results.
Rajasthan Congress Legislative Party Chief Whip Rafeek Khan said the party had sought verification wherever discrepancies were reported.
“Wrong things are being shown on social media, and the truth is that we are winning,” Khan said. He added that the party would seek rechecking wherever there was a difference between the reported figures and the official results.
“We will not tolerate any scam, and we will fight for our rights,” he said.
BJP leaders welcome results
Rajasthan Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra thanked voters across the state for their mandate and credited the BJP government with its development and governance initiatives.
He said the government had worked to address issues including water, electricity, law and order and employment, while focusing on development and transparent governance.
BJP Jaipur City MP Manju Sharma also congratulated party workers and welcomed the results, saying a “triple-engine government” was set to be formed in Rajasthan.
She also highlighted the state government's recruitment record and said thousands of jobs had been provided during its tenure.
Congress candidates celebrate victories
Congress candidate Manmohan Gurjar, who won Ward 51 in Sanganer, said he secured victory by around 1,700-1,800 votes.
Calling the result a victory for the people, Gurjar said he would focus on development work in Sanganer. He also said he would work with Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, who represents Sanganer, to address development-related issues.
In Jodhpur, Congress candidate Girdhari Singh Ketu also celebrated his victory, crediting voters and party leaders for his win.
Ketu said the result was significant as he had faced a candidate backed by Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. He said voters had supported their “local son” and delivered a decisive victory.
Security tightened at counting centre
Jaipur Police Commissioner Sachin Mittal said adequate security arrangements had been put in place at the counting centre, with senior police officers supervising the process.
The election of chairpersons of the urban local bodies is scheduled for September 21, followed by elections for deputy chairpersons on September 22.
