QR code glitch halts liquor sales in Coimbatore, Rs 15 cr stock returned

Coimbatore: Liquor worth approximately Rs 15 crore is currently stuck in the Coimbatore division, as QR codes on the bottles are failing to scan, preventing their sale at TASMAC outlets. The affected liquor bottles, which were recently distributed to shops, have been returned to the Peelamedu godown.

QR codes were introduced on liquor bottles to ensure transparency and maintain accurate sales records. As per protocol, TASMAC staff are required to scan the QR code before completing any sale. However, employees report that a significant number of newly delivered bottles are not scanning properly. In response, shops across the division have begun returning the unsellable bottles to the central godown.

Officials have acknowledged the issue. TASMAC Senior Regional Manager R Govindarasu confirmed that the scanning failure was due to a technical problem with the machines. He assured that once the QR codes on the bottles are corrected, the liquor will be redistributed to TASMAC outlets for sale.

Authorities also confirmed that liquor valued at around Rs 15 crore is currently stored at the Peelamedu godown awaiting resolution.
