Punjab shocker: Doctor shot point-blank inside clinic by fake patients

Moga: In a chilling attack captured on CCTV, Dr Aniljit Kamboj — father of Punjabi film actor Taneya — was shot at point-blank range while examining a patient inside Harbans Nursing Home in Punjab’s Moga district on Friday.
The video shows two men posing as patients; one distracted the doctor by claiming a leg infection while the other, lurking near the door, moved closer and fired twice — bullets hitting Dr Kamboj’s chest and stomach. The doctor collapsed off his chair as the attackers believed to be in their early 30s, fled the scene.
Police revealed the assailants had visited the clinic earlier at around 10 am but left when the doctor wasn’t there, only to return at 12:50 pm to execute their plan.
Dr Kamboj was rushed to hospital in a critical state and underwent a three-hour surgery. “He is currently on a ventilator in the ICU; his condition remains very critical,” said Dr Vijay Kalra.
Moga SSP Ajay Gandhi confirmed a case has been registered against two unidentified men based on the statement of the doctor’s son, Chahat Kamboj. “We have important clues and several teams are working; the accused will be arrested soon,” he added.
Police sources also revealed that Dr Kamboj had received a threat call in 2022 demanding extortion money — allegedly from Canada-based gangster Lakhbir Singh Landa — which led to an FIR being lodged at the time.
The brazen daytime attack has sent shockwaves across the region, as police hunt for the gunmen behind this audacious crime.
