Thar, Rolex, heroin... how Punjab’s ‘Instagram Queen’ cop landed in ₹1.35 crore asset probe

Punjab: Amandeep Kaur, a former Punjab Police head constable popularly known as the ‘Instagram Queen’ and ‘Thar wali constable’, has been arrested by the state vigilance bureau on charges of possessing assets disproportionate to her known sources of income.

Her arrest comes just weeks after she was dismissed from the police service following her April arrest in a heroin possession case.

Kaur was taken into custody from singer Afsana Khan’s house in Badal village. Officials also froze her properties worth ₹1.35 crore. The seized assets include a house in Virat Nagar valued at ₹99 lakh, a residential plot in Dream City (₹18.12 lakh), a 2025 Mahindra Thar (₹14 lakh), a 2023 Royal Enfield Bullet (₹1.7 lakh), a Rolex watch (₹1 lakh), three mobile phones (₹56,000), and over ₹1 lakh in her bank account.

According to officials, these actions fall under several laws including the NDPS Act, SAFEMA Act, and Benami Property Act. Investigations showed that between 2018 and 2025, Kaur earned ₹1.08 crore but spent ₹1.39 crore—₹31 lakh more than her declared income.

The vigilance probe was launched after her arrest on 3 April 2025, when she was caught with 17.7 grams of heroin inside her Thar during a routine check near the Badal flyover in Bathinda. Her vehicle was impounded and a criminal case filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Authorities are now probing her drug links and the financial sources behind her lavish lifestyle.

Despite being a police officer, Amandeep Kaur frequently posted Instagram reels in uniform, which violated Punjab Police’s code of conduct. She had amassed a large social media following of over 90,000, often showcasing luxury items, designer wear, and even her Shih Tzu dog.

During her 14-year tenure in the police force, she faced several disciplinary complaints and was frequently transferred. The scrutiny over her financial dealings intensified following her drug-related arrest and social media controversies.
