Lucknow: Prateek Yadav, the younger son of late Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and the stepbrother of Akhilesh Yadav, died suddenly in Lucknow on Wednesday morning. He was 38.

According to sources, Prateek Yadav was taken to Civil Hospital in Lucknow at around 6 am by family members. Doctors examined him and declared him dead shortly afterwards. His wife, BJP leader Aparna Yadav, was reportedly not present at the time.

Officials have not yet disclosed the cause of death, and further details are awaited pending the post-mortem report.

Post-mortem underway

According to reports, a panel of doctors at King George’s Medical University and Hospital will conduct a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Initial observations reportedly found no visible injury marks on the body.

Stayed away from active politics

Despite being part of one of Uttar Pradesh’s most prominent political families, Prateek Yadav largely kept himself away from frontline politics.

He was the son of Mulayam Singh Yadav and his second wife, Sadhna Gupta. After completing higher education at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom, he built a career in real estate and fitness.

Prateek was known in Lucknow’s fitness circles and operated a large gym called ‘The Fitness Planet’. Friends and associates often described him as deeply committed to health and fitness.

Passion for animal welfare

Apart from business and fitness, Prateek Yadav was also recognised for his involvement in social service activities, particularly animal welfare.

He ran an organisation named ‘Jeev Ashray’, which focused on the rescue, treatment and feeding of stray dogs. His affection for animals and continued work for stray dog welfare had earned appreciation from people across political lines.
