Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to begin work from his new office near Raisina Hill later this month, as the final stage of construction and interior work reaches completion.

The new complex, developed under the Centre’s Central Vista redevelopment programme, has been named Seva Teerth. During its construction phase, it was known as the Executive Enclave. The site consists of three separate buildings that together form the new nerve centre of India’s executive administration.

Seva Teerth 1 will house the Prime Minister’s Office, while Seva Teerth 2 will be home to the Cabinet Secretariat. Seva Teerth 3 will accommodate the National Security Council Secretariat along with the office of National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.

Large parts of the Central Vista project have already been completed. The new Parliament building is operational, and the Vice President’s Enclave is also ready. Work on the Prime Minister’s Office is in its final stage, and three of the eight newly planned ministerial buildings are already functioning.

The office complex was originally referred to as the Executive Enclave, but government sources later confirmed that it would be formally known as Seva Teerth, a term that reflects the idea of a holy place of public service. A new official residence for the Prime Minister is also under construction close to the office complex. Once that residence is ready, Modi will move out of his current home at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg.

The Seva Teerth buildings feature advanced meeting spaces designed to host visiting dignitaries. These rooms are equipped with modern technology while also showcasing Indian art, culture and traditional design elements. A specially built chamber has been created for Cabinet meetings. The Prime Minister’s Office itself follows an open-floor layout, which officials say is intended to encourage a more collaborative working environment.

Since Independence, the Prime Minister’s Office had been located in the South Block, alongside the Ministries of External Affairs and Defence. The North Block housed the Home and Finance Ministries. Both ministries have now moved to Kartavya Bhavan as part of the Central Vista transformation.

The historic North and South Blocks, which are remnants of the colonial era, will be converted into a large museum complex. This museum will present the story of India’s 5,000-year-old civilisation, with the first phase expected to open to the public early next year.
