PM Modi meets Indian-origin entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy; discusses innovation, biotechnology

Washington: On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Indian-American billionaire entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy at Blair House, the official guest house of the US President. The two leaders engaged in insightful discussions surrounding India-US ties, innovation, biotechnology, and the vital role of entrepreneurship in shaping the future.
Ramaswamy, who ran for the Republican presidential nomination last year, has played a significant role in the business world and policy discussions. According to a post on X by the Ministry of External Affairs, the conversation covered several important areas, including the strengthening of bilateral relations between India and the US.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi had a meeting with SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. They discussed opportunities in space exploration, mobility, technology, energy, and shared insights on governance reforms in India and the US. Modi also highlighted India's efforts toward the vision of “Minimum Government, Maximum Governance.”
“Musk and I had a very good meeting in Washington DC. We discussed various issues, including those he is passionate about such as space, mobility, technology, and innovation,” Modi said in a post on X.
Strengthening India-US collaboration in emerging technologies
During the meeting with Musk, Modi emphasised the importance of collaboration between Indian and US entities in emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and sustainable development. They also explored opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation in innovation and entrepreneurship.
Musk, who was appointed by US President Donald Trump to lead the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), brought a wealth of experience to the table. Vivek Ramaswamy had also been a part of DOGE before he left the role in January to focus on a potential run for Ohio’s gubernatorial election in 2026.
Before meeting Musk, Modi engaged with US National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, marking the first official engagement of the day. External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar and NSA Ajit Doval were also present during the discussions. Modi’s trip to Washington also saw him meet the new US Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, just hours after her swearing-in ceremony.
Prime Minister Modi also shared a pleasant moment with Elon Musk’s family, saying, “It was also a delight to meet Mr @elonmusk's family and to talk about a wide range of subjects!”
As Prime Minister Modi continues his visit to the US, these high-level meetings signify the growing collaboration between the two nations in critical areas such as space, innovation, and governance. The discussions with Ramaswamy and Musk highlight a shared vision for a more innovative and cooperative future between India and the US.
