Dum Dum (West Bengal), April 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday sharpened his attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), declaring that the first phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections 2026 is the “death knell” for what he termed “jungle raj” in the state.

Addressing a public rally in Dum Dum, Modi said record voter turnout reflects a decisive mood for change and has “made TMC nervous.”

He alleged that the ruling party was resorting to intimidation during polls but asserted that those indulging in violence would have “no place to hide” after results are declared.

The Prime Minister also pitched strong middle-class outreach, highlighting tax reforms undertaken by the Centre.

He said the government has eased financial pressure on households, contrasting it with the pre-2014 period. “Earlier, income up to ₹2 lakh was taxed.

Today, we have ensured zero tax up to ₹12 lakh income,” he said, presenting it as a major relief measure.

Modi further claimed that voter enthusiasm in Phase 1 has “sounded the bugle” for a BJP victory, adding that people have begun “rebuilding the temple of democracy” through high participation.

Focusing on women’s safety, the Prime Minister said the BJP stands with victims of injustice and promised stronger security measures if voted to power.

Referring to the RG Kar case, he said the party has given a platform to the victim’s mother, asserting commitment to justice and protection.

Reiterating his attack, PM Modi said the “flames” of TMC rule are set to be extinguished, expressing confidence that the election results will mark a decisive political shift in West Bengal.
