Jammu: Security forces have recovered a suspected nano drone from a border area in Jammu district, triggering a security alert along the international boundary, officials said on Friday.

The device was found lying in the Chakroi area of R S Pura sector on Thursday night after a local resident alerted authorities, they said. Security personnel rushed to the spot and secured the suspected unmanned aerial vehicle for examination.

Officials said an investigation has been launched to ascertain the origin, purpose and possible cross-border links of the drone. Forensic and technical analysis is underway to determine whether it was being used for surveillance or other hostile activities.

Nano drones are extremely small and lightweight unmanned aerial vehicles, often weighing under 100 grams, making them difficult to detect by conventional radar systems. Due to their compact size and low noise, such drones are considered suitable for covert surveillance, reconnaissance and potential payload delivery in sensitive border areas.

Security agencies have been on heightened alert along the Jammu border amid repeated attempts to use drones for spying and smuggling activities.
