Rohit Sharma, Harmanpreet Kaur among 2026 Padma Shri winners; Vijay Amritraj takes Padma Bhushan

New Delhi: India’s celebrated sports personalities have been recognised in the 2026 Padma Awards, with tennis legend Vijay Amritraj receiving the Padma Bhushan and cricket stars Rohit Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur honoured with the Padma Shri.
Vijay Amritraj, India’s iconic tennis star, has been conferred with the Padma Bhushan, the country’s third-highest civilian honour. Amritraj, who also received the Padma Shri in 1983 and the Arjuna Award in 1974, has made lasting contributions to Indian sports, both on and off the court. He was the only sportsperson to receive the Padma Bhushan in 2026.
Padma Shri honours for cricket and hockey stars
Indian cricket captains Rohit Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur were recognised with the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award. Both have played pivotal roles in shaping India’s cricketing successes, leading the men’s and women’s national teams with distinction.
Other Padma Shri awardees in sports
Apart from the cricket stars, former India pacer Praveen Kumar and Indian women’s hockey team goalkeeper Savita Punia were honoured with the Padma Shri. The awards also recognised Baldev Singh, Bhagwandas Raikwar, and K Pajanivel for their significant contributions to sports.
