New Delhi: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has introduced two new learning modules on Operation Sindoor for students in Classes 3 to 12, marking a first-of-its-kind effort to integrate national security lessons into the school curriculum.

Framed not merely as a military strike but as a national resolve for peace, justice, and remembrance, the modules revisit India’s decisive response to the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives.

Launched three months after the incident, Operation Sindoor — conducted on May 7, 2025 — is described as a precise and calibrated retaliation. According to the modules, India carried out missile and air strikes on nine terrorist hubs across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), destroying seven terror camps and key strongholds of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed in Muridke and Bahawalpur.

The NCERT notes that no civilian casualties were reported, underscoring India’s “moral and strategic high ground.” Each target, it states, was carefully verified to ensure that only terrorist infrastructure was hit.

Two versions of the modules have been developed:

  • “Operation Sindoor – A Saga of Valour” for Classes 3 to 8
  • “Operation Sindoor – A Mission of Honour and Bravery” for Classes 9 to 12

Beyond military details, the modules emphasise the synergy between India’s Army, Air Force, and strategic command, portraying the operation as a turning point in counter-terror doctrine. They also highlight local civilian voices in Kashmir that condemned the Pahalgam attack, breaking stereotypes and underscoring the region’s rejection of violence.

Quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the modules state: “Operation Sindoor is not an ordinary military operation. It is a confluence of India’s policy, intent, and decisive capability.”

Through these lessons, NCERT aims to instil national pride, awareness of India’s defence preparedness, and understanding of its principled stance in global geopolitics—while honouring the memory of terror victims.
