Noida teen apologised, PM Modi forgave her; yet family says they had to leave home

Noida: A 15-year-old girl and her mother have left their rented house in Noida after claiming they faced repeated harassment following the teenager’s alleged abusive remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a protest organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

The complaint against the minor was later withdrawn by Supreme Court lawyer Smriti Singh, who had initially filed cases against eight girls. Singh said she decided not to pursue the complaints after the students apologised and after Prime Minister Modi said he had forgiven those who made remarks against him and his late mother.

Singh told PTI that a zero FIR was registered on July 29 based on her complaint at the Expressway police station in Noida. The case included charges under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to alleged insult, statements causing public mischief and defamation. She later informed Delhi Police and the Crime Branch about withdrawing her complaints in all eight cases.

The girl had released an apology video after the controversy, saying she had been influenced by people present at the protest and expressing regret over her remarks. She said it was her first mistake and promised not to repeat it.

However, the teenager’s mother alleged that the family continued to face pressure despite the apology. She claimed that strangers and police personnel repeatedly visited their residence, forcing them to leave their rented accommodation in Noida.

According to PTI, security guards and maintenance staff at the housing society in Sector 168 said the girl and her mother were no longer staying there. They said the family had remained withdrawn after the video became public and that police personnel from Delhi and Noida had visited the residence on some occasions.

Noida Police officials said they had not received any complaint regarding harassment of the family. An official from the Expressway police station said the zero FIR was registered and transferred to Delhi Police as the alleged incident took place in the national capital. The official added that the family had not contacted local police regarding any harassment allegations.

The girl’s mother had earlier appealed to Prime Minister Modi to forgive her daughter and requested that the case be withdrawn. She said her daughter was a Class 10 student and had been influenced during the protest. She also claimed that the age details mentioned in the FIR were incorrect.

The family’s lawyer Anil Kumar said the girl was a juvenile and alleged that the complaint wrongly described her age and occupation. He claimed that the FIR was registered without proper preliminary verification.

The controversy began after a video from the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar went viral, showing the girl allegedly making remarks against the prime minister. The protest was organised over issues related to alleged paper leaks and concerns regarding the education system.

Prime Minister Modi later said that students who made offensive remarks against him should be guided rather than punished, stating that he had forgiven them. Delhi Police sources said the zero FIR remained under examination and had not yet been converted into a regular FIR.
