Fire breaks out in coach of New Delhi-Chennai Grand Trunk Express; no casualties

Nagpur: A coach of the New Delhi–Chennai (Tambaram) Grand Trunk Express caught fire in Maharashtra’s Wardha district on Tuesday morning, railway officials said, adding that no casualties were reported.
Train 12616 had departed from Nagpur and was heading towards Sindi railway station when smoke was detected in the last guard coach at around 11.09 am, Central Railway spokesperson Sanjay Muley told PTI.

The train was immediately halted on the Sindi–Tuljapur section, and the affected coach was detached as a precautionary measure. Fire brigade personnel were alerted and rushed to the spot, he said.

“All passengers in the train and the coach concerned were safe,” the official said.
The exact cause of the fire will be known after a detailed investigation, officials added.
The train is expected to resume its journey shortly without the damaged coach.
