New bride, deadly plot: Bihar woman allegedly hires shooters to kill husband as she wanted to marry uncle

Patna: In a shocking crime that echoes the infamous Meghalaya honeymoon murder, a 25-year-old man was gunned down barely 45 days after his wedding—allegedly at the behest of his newly wed wife and her secret lover.
According to police, the young woman, identified as Gunja Devi, conspired with her maternal uncle Jeevan Singh (55)—with whom she was reportedly in a relationship—to eliminate her husband Priyanshu, a resident of Barwan village under the Nabinagar police station limits.
The chilling crime unfolded on June 25, when Priyanshu was returning home by train after visiting his sister. “He had called Devi to send someone to pick him up from Navi Nagar station,” said Superintendent of Police Amrish Rahul. “On his way from the station, he was shot dead by two hired assailants.”
Investigators say Devi and Singh were desperate to marry each other, but their families strongly opposed the union. Under pressure, Devi’s family married her off to Priyanshu just two months ago.
When police began probing the murder, Devi’s attempt to flee the village immediately raised suspicion among Priyanshu’s relatives. “We checked her call records and found she was in constant touch with Singh,” SP Rahul said. Further investigation revealed Singh, too, had been frequently communicating with the shooters.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) swiftly arrested Devi and the two shooters. Singh remains at large, and a manhunt has been launched to track him down.
The murder bears a chilling resemblance to the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case from May this year, in which newlywed wife Sonam, along with her lover Raj Kushawa and three accomplices, killed her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon. All the accused in that case are now in custody.
“The brutality and betrayal in these cases underline the extreme lengths some people will go for forbidden love,” an officer close to the investigation remarked.
As the search for Singh continues, the tragedy has left the village in shock, mourning a young life cut short by a fatal conspiracy born out of illicit love.
