Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially become India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister, crossing a landmark 4,399 days in office. On Wednesday, 10 June 2026, he surpassed the record of 4,398 consecutive days previously held by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru after the first general election.

A historic milestone in the capital

Celebratory banners appeared across New Delhi as the Prime Minister completed 12 years at the helm. This record-breaking tenure is underscored by three successive mandates from the Indian electorate in 2014, 2019 and 2024. The achievement coincides with a high-level NDA conclave at Bharat Mandapam, where Chief Ministers and senior leaders from 22 states have gathered.

Tributes pour in from across Bharat

Congratulatory messages have flooded in from global dignitaries, NDA partners and prominent national figures. Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan described the achievement as more than a measure of time, calling it a reflection of a "transformative era". He noted that the Prime Minister’s policies have helped lift more than 25 crore people out of absolute poverty through inclusive development.

Former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa penned an open letter on behalf of citizens, expressing "heartfelt gratitude" for the country's changing story. Meanwhile, Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Hardeep Singh Puri and Manohar Lal lauded the Prime Minister's stewardship, with Puri describing the 4,399-day mark as a "historic landmark" in the history of independent India. From the east, the West Bengal Lok Bhavan extended congratulations, noting that his leadership has inspired an inclusive framework for governance. Across these tributes, a common thread remains the vision of a developed nation by 2047.
