Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari sends message to Muslims, minority voters ahead of Nandigram bypoll

Nandigram: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday appealed to minority voters to support the government in the October 6 Assembly bypolls in Nandigram and Rejinagar, while expressing confidence that the BJP would win Nandigram.

Adhikari was addressing a Sankalp Sabha in Nandigram ahead of BJP candidate Hasirani Rath's nomination filing for the bypoll.

Appealing to minority voters, Adhikari said he was aware that many of them did not vote for him or the BJP but urged them to use the upcoming election as an opportunity to decide whether they wanted to work with the government.

‘If you want to stay with the government, work hand in hand with it and avail yourself of its benefits, then October 6 will be your test in Rejinagar and Nandigram,’ he said.

Adhikari added that the outcome would depend on the voters, while asserting that the BJP was confident of winning the remaining contests.

The Chief Minister also expressed confidence about the BJP's prospects in Nandigram and said he hoped he would not have to return to the constituency during the campaign, except to cast his vote.

Adhikari also assured BJP workers in Nandigram that he would fulfil the commitments he had made during his campaign as a candidate.

He said it was his responsibility to ensure that BJP workers and leaders who had faced jail and legal cases were given recognition and dignity through the government and the party.

Adhikari further said he would work to ensure that BJP workers in Nandigram were removed from what he described as false cases.

The Nandigram bypoll is scheduled for October 6, along with the Rejinagar Assembly bypoll.
