Nagaland IED blast: Assam Rifles jawan killed, four others injured in Chumoukedima

A suspected improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Nagaland's Chumoukedima district claimed the life of an Assam Rifles soldier and left four other personnel injured on Monday, triggering a massive security operation in the area. The incident occurred during an operational movement of Assam Rifles troops, with officials suspecting that the explosion was aimed at a military vehicle.

According to Defence officials, the blast took place while the convoy was carrying out routine operational duties in the district. Havildar Mohd Iqbal succumbed to his injuries after the explosion, while four fellow personnel sustained injuries and were rushed to a medical facility for treatment. Their condition has not been officially detailed.

The attack has prompted an intensive search operation, with security forces combing the surrounding area to trace those behind the explosion. Investigators are also examining the site to determine how the suspected IED was planted and whether militant groups operating in the region were involved.

As of now, authorities have not identified or named any organisation responsible for the attack. Officials said the investigation remains in its early stages, and more details are expected after forensic examination of the blast site.

Following the incident, the Assam Rifles paid tribute to Havildar Mohd Iqbal, honouring his sacrifice in the line of duty. In a message shared on X, the force said Director General Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, along with all ranks of the Assam Rifles, expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family and reaffirmed that the force stands firmly with them during this difficult time.
