Greater Noida: The father of a 27-year-old software engineer who died after his car went out of control and fell into a 20-feet-deep water-filled pit in Sector 150 has accused officials and staff at the site of failing to save his son.

"My son was struggling to save himself... My son was crying out for help, asking people to help him, but most of the crowd was just watching. Some people were making videos... My son struggled for 2 hours to save his life... The officials and staff present there were not capable of saving him. They did not have any divers... There is negligence by the administration in this entire matter...," said Rajkumar Mehta, father of the deceased, Yuvraj Mehta.

Yuvraj is a resident of the Tata Eureka Park society in Sector 150. He was working as a software engineer with a reputed company in Gurugram and was returning home from work at the time of the incident.

“My demand is that there should be proper action in the case and full arrangements should be made so that such an incident does not happen again there,” his father added.

The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday, following which a search operation was launched. The body was recovered later in the morning with the help of teams from the fire department, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local police.

Police at the Knowledge Park police station said they received information at around 12.15 am that a car had plunged into the pit near Sector 150. "The search operation was carried out with the help of the NDRF, SDRF, fire department and local police. The body was recovered at around 4 am on Saturday," said Additional Commissioner of Police (Greater Noida) Hemant Upadhyay.

Preliminary investigations suggest that fog and overspeeding may have caused the car to cross a drain and fall into the pit, police said. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is underway.
