Viral Lamborghini crash video: Raymond chief gets lectured online for focusing on car, not driver safety

Mumbai: A high-end Lamborghini rammed into the divider of the Coastal Road on Sunday morning, officials said, in an incident that left the sports car driver unhurt.

The 52-year-old driver, Atish Shah, who resides at Nepean Sea Road, was travelling to Colaba in south Mumbai when he lost control of the vehicle. "The car skidded on the road and rammed into the divider," an official said. The front side of the car sustained damage and was later towed away.

Prima facie, police suspect the wet road caused the accident, as the city had witnessed a downpour. Worli police have asked the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to examine the car for any technical faults. A case has been registered against Shah under relevant sections for rash driving.

Social media reaction

A video of the incident quickly surfaced on social media platforms. Raymond Ltd Chairman and Managing Director Gautam Singhania, known for his passion for cars, shared the video on X on Sunday. "Another day, another Lamborghini mishap. This time on Mumbai's Coastal Road. Do these cars even have traction? From catching fire to losing grip – what's going on with Lamborghini?" he wrote.

Netizens on Singhania’s X post comment section largely blamed reckless driving rather than the Lamborghini itself for the crash. Many pointed to the wet road causing hydroplaning and highlighted the dangers of speeding in crowded city streets.

Singhania, was indirectly lectured online for focusing on the car’s traction instead of road safety and the risks posed by drivers treating Mumbai’s Coastal Road as a personal racetrack. The consensus online was that the accident reflected irresponsible driving, not a fault with the Lamborghini.
