Mumbai local train halted after power bank reportedly explodes in ladies' compartment

A power bank reportedly exploded inside a passenger's bag in the ladies' compartment of a Mumbai suburban local train, triggering panic among commuters, railway officials said on Saturday.
No one was injured in the incident, which occurred around 12.30 pm on Friday on a Badlapur-bound local train travelling from Dadar.
According to a Central Railway (CR) spokesperson, a woman's bag caught fire following a suspected power bank explosion before the train reached Ghatkopar station. Thick smoke soon filled the compartment, prompting passengers to pull the alarm chain.
Alert commuters removed the burning bag and doused the flames with water. Another account of the incident suggested that the bag was thrown out at Ghatkopar station, the CR spokesperson said.
Although no one was injured, the woman's belongings were destroyed in the fire, the official added.
The train was halted at Ghatkopar station between 12.51 pm and 12.53 pm to allow safety checks. Railway staff inspected the train before it resumed its journey, the spokesperson said.
