Mohali: A 30-year-old woman was killed in a brutal knife attack inside her workplace in Mohali's Sector 66 on Thursday evening, with police suspecting the crime stemmed from a failed relationship. The accused, identified as her former partner and colleague, is currently in critical condition after allegedly attempting to take his own life following the assault.

The victim, Dimple, a resident of Patiala, was employed at a packers and movers company where the accused, Harvinder Mann alias Harry, also worked. Investigators said both had been associated with the firm for nearly three years.

The incident happened after Harvinder arrived at the office during the evening hours and confronted Dimple. The two had reportedly ended their relationship around six months ago. While the accused was allegedly trying to resume contact, Dimple had chosen to distance herself, investigators said.

What began as a verbal confrontation soon turned violent. The accused attacked the woman with a knife inside the office premises. Despite suffering injuries, Dimple reportedly tried to flee towards the building's exit, but the assault continued. The attack left employees in shock, with several staff members attempting unsuccessfully to stop the accused.

Emergency responders rushed both individuals to a nearby private hospital after being alerted about the incident. Doctors declared Dimple dead shortly after arrival. Harvinder, who allegedly stabbed himself after the attack, remains under treatment and is said to be in a critical condition.

Police officials examined the scene and collected evidence as part of the investigation. A murder case has been registered, and officers said further details regarding the motive and sequence of events are expected to emerge once the accused is medically fit to provide a statement.

The investigation is ongoing.
