Malayali woman killed in Bengaluru road accident after being thrown off motorcycle

Bengaluru: A 30-year-old accountant originally from Kerala was killed on Wednesday morning after being thrown from a motorcycle into the path of an oncoming mini-goods vehicle along a severely deteriorated road in Electronics City in Bengaluru.

The deceased, identified as Medha Prithviraj (also known as Medha Akarsh), hailed from Balussery in Kozhikode district and resided in Anantnagar. She was employed at the regional Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) office and was commuting to work alongside her colleague, Ajay Guru, when the collision occurred at approximately 09:00 am on Anantnagar Main Road.

According to local police, the incident was triggered when an automobile directly ahead of Guru’s two-wheeler braked abruptly to avoid a pedestrian stepping into the carriageway, TOI reported.

“Guru applied the brakes, too, causing Medha to be thrown off the two-wheeler and fall onto the road, when a mini goods vehicle approaching from the opposite direction ran over her,” a police officer said.

Medha was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where she subsequently succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the goods vehicle fled the scene immediately following the crash.

“We are checking footage from the CCTVs in the vicinity,” an investigating officer stated, noting that bystanders failed to record the vehicle’s registration number.

While law enforcement officials noted that sudden braking was the primary trigger, local residents expressed severe outrage over the neglected state of the thoroughfare, citing heavy slush and deep potholes as major factors in the fall.

“The authorities should be held responsible for this death. The roads have been muddy and slushy because of the severe disrepair those are in,” read a statement circulated across local community networks.

Medha is survived by her husband, S.L. Akarsh, who also works in Bengaluru, and their three-year-old son, Daksh. She was the daughter of Prithviraj Modakkallur, a retired teacher and prominent socio-cultural figure in Balussery, and Usha, a former schoolteacher.

Her funeral is scheduled to take place at 10:00 hrs on Thursday at her family home in Balussery, Kozhikode.
