Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Monday expelled her nephew Akash Anand from the party, citing his "selfish and arrogant" response following his removal from key responsibilities.

Mayawati took to X to announce the decision, stating that the move was made to uphold the party's discipline and the legacy of Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar and Kanshiram. "In the interest of the self-respect movement and the party, Akash Anand, like his father-in-law, is expelled from the BSP," she posted.

The BSP supremo said that Akash's reaction to his dismissal showed a lack of political maturity and was heavily influenced by his father-in-law Ashok Siddharth, who was recently expelled from the party on charges of factionalism.

"The long explanation given by Akash is neither a sign of remorse nor political maturity. It reflects selfishness and arrogance, influenced by his father-in-law—something I have always cautioned party members to avoid," she said.

Mayawati said Akash was expected to accept the decision with maturity. "He was relieved of all responsibilities, including the role of National Coordinator, during the party's All-India meeting. His continued association with Ashok
Siddharth was the primary reason behind the move. Instead of reflecting on his actions, Akash responded in an undesirable manner," she added.

Following his removal, Akash Anand expressed his disappointment but vowed to continue working for the Bahujan movement.

Taking to X, he described the decision as an emotional one but said he remained committed to the cause.

"The decision of respected Behenji Mayawati ji to relieve me from all party posts is personally emotional for me, but the struggle is not about positions—it's about the self-respect of marginalised communities. The test is difficult, but I will continue to dedicate myself fully to the mission," he wrote.

Akash reiterated that he would fight for society's rights as a dedicated worker of the Bahujan movement. "This is an idea and a movement that cannot be suppressed. Lakhs of Akash Anands are ready to keep this torch burning and sacrifice everything for the cause," he added.

Meanwhile, Mayawati appointed Anand Kumar and Ramji Gautam as national coordinators of the BSP while reiterating that factionalism would not be tolerated within the party.
