Mansoor Ali Khan to join Congress

Chennai: Actor and leader of the India Jananayaka Puligal Party, Mansoor Ali Khan, is set to join Congress. Khan visited the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) headquarters, where he formally submitted his application for membership following a meeting with TNCC state president K Selvaperunthagai. He also demanded to grant the membership in the presence of Rahul Gandhi.
Emphasizing his longstanding affiliation with the Congress, Khan highlighted the importance of the party's leadership in nurturing the nation's growth. He wants either Rahul Gandhi or Priyanka Gandhi to assume the role of Prime Minister.
Khan's political journey has been marked by shifts, having previously been associated with Seeman's Naam Tamilar Party before establishing his own political organization. In the recent Lok Sabha elections, he contested as an independent candidate from the Vellore constituency. His decision to align with the Congress follows his declaration of support for the Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) to constituencies across Tamil Nadu other than Vellore where he contested.
Selvaperunthagai acknowledged Khan's interest in joining the party, indicating a positive reception within the organization. However, the final decision regarding his membership, particularly in the presence of Rahul Gandhi, remains pending. With the conclusion of polls in Tamil Nadu, Rahul's immediate visit to the state seems unlikely.
