Manipur: Security forces nab five militants in separate operations

Imphal: In a major breakthrough, security forces have arrested five militants from multiple proscribed outfits, in three districts of Manipur, police confirmed on Friday, April 16.
Forces nabbed the criminals on Thursday, May 15, from Imphal East, Imphal West and Thoubal districts, a senior officer said.
The officer said, “Two cadres of the banned United National Liberation Front (Koireng) were apprehended from Andro Parking and Khurai Konsam Leikai in Imphal East district.”
Recovery: One firearm, two rifles, a hand grenade and multiple ammunition were seized from the militants.
Who were arrested? Forces were swift in action and arrested an active cadre of the outlawed KCP (PWG) from Khangabok Part II in Thoubal district. He was involved in extortion activities, the officer confirmed.
One member of the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (SOREPA) was arrested from Khonghampat Awang Leikai in Imphal West district, he said.
A cadre of banned Prepak (Pro) was apprehended from Heirok Part III in Thoubal district, and a cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from his possession, the officer said.
Search Operations: Search activities have been carried out by security authorities in Manipur since ethnic unrest began two years ago. Since May 2023, ethnic conflict between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo factions has resulted in over 260 deaths and thousands of displaced people.
Following the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, the Center imposed President's rule in Manipur on February 13. The state assembly has been placed under suspended animation, with a term ending in 2027.
