Viral VIDEO: Man's close call with lion in Gujarat sparks outrage and arrest

# News Desk

A shocking video from Bhavnagar, Gujarat, has gone viral, showing a man dangerously approaching a lion while it devours its prey—apparently in a reckless attempt to film the predator. The clip has stunned viewers and prompted widespread criticism over the man’s disregard for both his safety and the welfare of the wild animal.

The man, holding a mobile phone, is seen walking up to the lion, ignoring the obvious danger. Initially preoccupied with its kill, the lion soon notices the intruder and reacts with visible agitation. It growls loudly and moves toward the man, seemingly issuing a warning. Despite this, the man continues to film while slowly stepping back.

Incident took place in Talaja region, arrest made

According to a report by India Today, the incident occurred in the Sim area between Bambhor and Talli villages, located in the Talaja region of Bhavnagar district. Once the video began circulating on social media, the Forest Department launched an immediate inquiry and successfully traced the location.

Following an investigation, officials identified and arrested the man, named Gautam, after interrogation. A case has now been filed against him under various Sections of the Forest Act, according to Forest Department authorities.

A near miss captured on camera

At one point in the footage, the man appears to attempt hiding behind the carcass to get a closer shot of the lion. The animal, reacting swiftly, leaps forward, prompting the man to back away quickly. Voices in the background suggest that the video was captured by the man’s companions, several of whom can be heard screaming as the lion charges forward. Fortunately, the predator eventually halts, circles its kill and resumes feeding.

Public outrage and calls for accountability

The man's actions have triggered widespread condemnation online, with many calling the stunt not only "reckless" but "stupidity at its finest”. Some expressed concern that had the lion attacked, the animal might have been killed in retaliation, despite the human being at fault.

Others urged authorities to take strict action to prevent such behaviour from being repeated.
